I wish I had that lunch today.
It was 4000 degrees today outisde.
Why do people always say they could fry an egg on top of a car?
Why dont they say, " I bet I could cook a potroast on that car!"
I have never heard anyone say that.

because an egg is relatively small and self-contained. it would fry quickly and remain in place on your car's surface. a pot roast, by comparison, is much larger and thicker, requiring long cooking times, which would involve a much more elaborate process of turning the meat and basting at the right times. some of this problem could be eliminated by cooking the pot roast on the car with the additional use of a large cover or dome that would help retain the juices. the juices, by the way, are the other problem. the juices would likely run down your car's surface and pool in places that you would not like to have meat juice, if you would like to have meat juices at all, anywhere. some people have been known to have their carpeting and vinyl surfaces permanently ruined by meat juices that set for a period of time on them.
in fact, there used to be the saying, boy, it's so hot out there, you could cook a pot roast on my car. however, the above-mentioned problems eventually made this less feasible, so people began the tradition of simply frying an egg on the car, apparently just for illustrative purposes.
(it is rumored that in 2009 BMW will come out with the option on its higher-end models for anti-stick paints, which will allow the well-heeled BMW drivers to indeed cook on the hot surfaces of their cars, should they choose.
note: vegans hardly ever suggest that you could cook an egg on their car, because such would be an inappropriate precedent.
I've known Lyrrad Skoorb a long time and I'm always amazed at the breadth (and sometimes length) of his knowledge about all fields...especially those that grown vegetables (including the fertilizer used!) whahaha
And even if BMW is coming out with a pseudoTeflon paint, I still don't think I want an egg cooked on a car.
Well, must go now, I have some tomatoes stewing outside in the backyard...not in a pot, just on the vine stewing.

When I worked in television news, each summer, some intrepid reported would buy some eggs and try to prove that it was, in fact, hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. It usually wasn't.
